Dear Partner in Education,
You may have seen expressions of concern regarding the use of wireless technology within schools and public buildings.
I wanted to take the opportunity to assure all our school community partners – students, staff, parents, volunteers and community members – that student safety is, and always will be, our first priority as a school board.
As educators, our responsibility to improve the lives of the students in our care is unquestioned and forms the core of our decision making.
As you can understand, in areas of public health we rely on the guidance and direction established by experts in the field. In this case, Health Canada, the World Health Organization, and provincial health authorities have all concluded that the use of wireless technology does not pose a public health risk.
Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Arlene King, and the Ontario Agency for Health Protection and Promotion have both confirmed the safety of this technology. Dr. Rosana Salvaterra, Medical Officer of Health, Peterborough County-City Health Unit, has also endorsed the safety of wireless networks within public institutions.
