School busing disruptions - September 28, 2020

Unfortunately, severe school bus driver shortages are continuing to result in the cancellation or delay of many school bus routes across our area. These shortages have been made more severe by the current COVID-19 epidemic.

All families of students who are bused are encouraged to visit stsco.ca daily for the latest updates on busing disruptions.

September 18, 2020

First Student bus company is continuing to work to secure drivers to avoid continued bus route cancellation next week.

STSCO is hopeful the company can return to full operation by Monday, Sept. 21. Further updates will be provided prior to Monday as information becomes available. Families are encouraged to visit STSCO’s website regularly to ensure they have the latest information on their child’s bus route. www.stsco.ca

We are pleased to note that First Student has secured drivers for some previously cancelled routes and those routes will resume Monday morning. Those routes include: Routes 009 A/B (serving Clarington Central SS and Int, St. Stephen SS and Enniskillen PS, 016 (serving Bowmanville HS, Duke of Cambridge PS and St. Joseph ES), 104 A/B (serving Cobourg CI and Terry Fox ES) and HCTrans7 (serving Holy Cross SS).

Should First Student be unable to resolve its un-serviced routes for Monday, STSCO will continue to look at other options for resolving the issue in consultation with the school boards.

For Immediate Release

Driver shortages continue to cause bus disruptions in local schools

Nearly 40 bus routes cancelled for Monday, Sept. 14

PETERBOROUGH – Student Transportation Services of Central Ontario (STSCO) says families should have back up transportation plans as close to 40 bus routes have been cancelled for Monday, Sept. 14 servicing local public and Catholic schools.

STSCO has been informed that, due to an area bus driver shortage, First Student bus company will have to cancel 38 school bus routes for both morning and afternoon runs on Monday, September 14, 2020.

The cancelled routes are listed on STSCO.ca by school.

Some local bus companies continue to have difficulty hiring and retaining drivers during the pandemic, an issue that many transportation consortia across Ontario are facing. As a result, STSCO warns that bus route cancellations and delays may be a daily occurrence in the weeks ahead.

Any disruptions will be posted on a daily basis on the STSCO website to give parents and guardians as much advance notice as possible.

Families in both Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board and Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington Catholic District School Board are asked to monitor STSCO.ca in the mornings and evenings, sign-up for automatic notifications and follow @stsco_ca on Twitter for information on cancellations and delays.
